CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The team's two leading scorers, seniors
Carver Neary and
Noah Rodriguez, combined for a goal as the McDaniel College men's soccer team opened Centennial Conference play with a 1-1 draw at Washington College Saturday night.
The Green Terror (6-0-1, 0-0-1 CC) remained unbeaten in seven games this season, their second-best start to a season in program history. In 2019, the team started the season with nine consecutive wins.
Neary scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season just over four minutes into the contest when he found the back of the net off an assist from Rodriguez who picked up his team-leading fifth assist of the season.
Rodriguez, who was named Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, has assisted on one-third of McDaniel's 15 goals this season.
After taking the early lead on the second shot of the game and their first, the Green Terror had two play tough defense to earn the tie.
Ranked seventh in the latest United Soccer Coaches Region V rankings, the Shoremen (3-2-2, 0-0-1 CC) knocked off No. 24 Mary Washington at home on Sept. 13, 3-2, and tied No. 18 Catholic on Sept. 16, 2-2. They held a 20-3 advantage in shots and a 9-1 margin in corner kicks.

Tate Roth made a season-high five saves, three of which came in the first half along with one team save to keep the visitors in front.
Trailing 1-0 to start the second half, Washington out-shot the visitors, 8-1, netting the game-tying goal in the 55th minute when Simone Perin scored off an assist from Tshazi Kamau.
The McDaniel defense face five shots and three corner kicks from the Shoremen over the final 35 minutes. However, the Green Terror did not allow the go-ahead goal as they remained unbeaten in 11 of the last 13 meetings against their in-state conference rival, improving to 7-2-4 since 2012.
McDaniel returns home to begin a three-game home stand on Tuesday against Gwynedd-Mercy. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.
