WESTMINSTER, Md. - Sophomore
Charley Noah scored her fifth goal of the season five minutes into overtime to lead the McDaniel College field hockey team to a 1-0 win over Elizabethtown Saturday night inside Gill Stadium.
The Green Terror (4-3) have won back-to-back home games after opening the season with five consecutive games on the road. The win was also their second in the last two games against the Blue Jays at home.
With five goals in seven games this season, Noah has already scored the most goals by a McDaniel player since 2018. Her goal with 4:35 remaining in the first overtime was her fourth game-deciding goal of the year as her goals have accounted for all four of the team's wins.
Both teams were evenly matched as Elizabethtown (2-4) held a slim 19-16 edge in shots and an 8-5 margin in shots on goal.
Junior
Lora Scarangello finished with eight saves, two shy of her season high set at Stevenson. Three of her saves came in the fourth quarter as the Blue Jays had two shots, two penalty corners, and one penalty stroke in the final two minutes.
The penalty stroke attempt by Elizabethtown's Rachel Troutman with 49 seconds left went wide of the left post, keeping the game scoreless to force overtime.
Three of McDaniel's seven games this season have been decided in overtime with the team posting a 2-1 record with wins over Hood and Elizabethtown and a loss at Wilkes. Under fourth-year head coach
Kati Nearhouse, the Green Terror are 4-4 in eight overtime games since 2022.
Sophomore
Kathryn Morin, who scored her first career point in the 4-1 win over Wilson on Wednesday, picked up her second assist when she sent the ball forward to Noah just inside the of the circle before she drove it into the lower left corner.
McDaniel returns to action next Friday, Sept. 26 when it travels to Misericordia for a 6 p.m. contest with the Cougars in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
