FREDERICK, Md. - Sophomore
Charley Noah scored the game-winning goal in the sixth minute of overtime to lift the McDaniel College field hockey team to a 2-1 win over Hood on Tuesday.
Noah's game winner was her second goal of the game for the Green Terror (1-1), matching her total from all of last season and marking her first career multi-goal game.
Noah's 15 shots and 11 shots on goal were the most for an individual player in a game since Megan Quattrone took 14 shots and 11 on goal against Eastern Mennonite on Sept. 26, 2018.
Noah opened the scoring less than 11 minutes into 10:53 the first quarter, but the Blazers tied it on a penalty stroke midway through the third.
Two late penalty corners and back-to-back shots from Noah and junior
Kelsey Jennings yielded no goals to keep the score tied headed into the final quarter.
The Green Terror took six shots in the fourth, five of which came in the final five minutes. The Blazers had four scoring chances in the final minute, but could not convert as junior
Lora Scarangello saved a last-second attempt at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.
Noah opened the extra session with two shots, each of which were saved. A shot from freshman
Caydence Stone was saved again before Noah scooped up the rebound and scored the game-winner just past the 65-minute mark to give McDaniel the win.
The Green Terror took 24 shots in the match, the most for the team in a single game since Sept. 2, 2021 versus Notre Dame Maryland, when the team took 29 shots. McDaniel registered 11 penalty corners in the contest against only six for Hood.
The Green Terror will host Meredith in a neutral site contest at Goucher College on Sunday beginning at noon.
