Legacy’s Two Goals Lead Field Hockey to 4-1 Win Over Wilson

WESTMINSTER, Md. – First year Grace Legacy scored her first two collegiate goals to lead the McDaniel College field hockey team to a 4-1 win over Wilson on Wednesday at Gill Stadium.

The four goals for the Green Terror (3-3) were the team's highest single-game total since a 5-1 win over King's (PA) on Sept. 14, 2024. The team earned its second win in the series history with the Phoenix, its first since a 2-1 overtime win on Sept. 13, 2022.

Legacy's first goal opened the scoring at the 6:52 mark of the first quarter. A blocked shot from sophomore Charley Noahallowed Legacy to scoop up the rebound and score her first career goal to give the Green Terror a 1-0 lead. Nearly three minutes later, Noah scored her fourth goal of the season on a backhanded shot to double the McDaniel lead after one.

The Phoenix got on the board in the second quarter following back-to-back saves for sophomore Teaghen Rieder, as Wilson took four shots and four penalty corners in the period to cut the deficit to one at halftime.

The Green Terror began the third quarter with six consecutive shots, four of which resulted in Wilson saves. Following a shot from first year Caydence Stone, Legacy scored again on an assist from junior Kelsey Jennings to increase the McDaniel lead, 3-1. The Green Terror allowed only a single Wilson shot during the quarter to stay in front by two.

Later in the fourth quarter, Stone scored the first goal of her career on another rebound following an initial shot from sophomore Kathryn Morin to make the score 4-1, which remained the final margin after McDaniel again allowed on a single shot to Wilson in the quarter.

Legacy led the way offensively with two goals on two shots while Stone also scored on two shots. Noah led the team with seven shots and four on goal, and five other Green Terror players took shots throughout the contest.

Rieder and junior Lora Scarangello split time in the cage, with Rieder earning two saves on five shots faced.

The Green Terror return to Gill Stadium for a Saturday night showdown with Elizabethtown. Start time is set for 6 p.m.
