WESTMINSTER, Md. – The McDaniel College volleyball team split its two matches on day two of the McDaniel Invitational, sweeping the opener over Penn College 3-0 before falling in a sweep to Mount Aloysius on Saturday.
The Green Terror (3-3) won each set by at least five points in the win over the Wildcats to start the day.
McDaniel 3, Penn College 0
Both teams traded points to open the first set, with the lead staying between three until a 6-1 Green Terror run made the score 14-7, the last three points on the run all coming via service ace from junior
Reese Beck. The Wildcats stayed closed and eventually cut the deficit to just one, 20-19. McDaniel then closed the set on a 5-1 run to win 25-20, highlighted by kills from sophomore
Stephanie Buttons and junior
Abigayle Bowley.
The second set was again a back-and-forth affair as the Wildcats used a quick 4-0 run to tie the set early, 10-10. McDaniel held an 18-17 lead late and used a 7-2 run to pick up the 25-19 win. Kills from Bowley, sophomore

Renita Bankole-Gibson sealed the set for the Green Terror.
Set three saw long runs from both teams to start. With the score tied 11-11, McDaniel exploded for a six-point run with kills from Turner and first year
Mariya Carson. The Wildcats clawed back late to cut the deficit to two, but back-to-back aces from Beck kicked off a 6-1 run for the Green Terror to take the match in a sweep.
Turner and Carson tied for the team lead with nine kills, a career-high number for Turner. Buttons and Bowley chipped in with six and five kills respectively, while sophomore
Cassy Poteet led the team with 27 assists. Beck's six aces set a new career high.
Mount Aloysius 3, McDaniel 0
After a slow start in the opener, the Green Terror (3-4) stormed back to take a 12-11 lead following a service error from the Mounties. Mount Aloysius then rattled off five straight points and surged ahead late 22-17. Trailing 24-21, McDaniel tied the set and traded points with the Mounties well beyond the 25-point threshold. Mount Aloysius outlasted the Green Terror in a 30-28 win to take the first set of the match.
Set two saw an early 10-9 lead for the visitors grow into a 16-9 lead thanks to a 6-0 run. Following a kill from senior
Kailey Young, Mount Aloysius rattled off another seven straight points to pull away and win 25-16.
The Mounties opened the third set on a 5-1 run and maintained the lead throughout. McDaniel never got closer than three as Mount Aloysius used a 5-0 run to clinch the match in a sweep, 25-12.
Young's 11 kills led the team offensively while Bowley and Carson tied for second with five kills apiece. Sophomore
Kaylee Comstock had 19 assists and four digs while senior
Samantha Fadel led the way with 11 digs.
The Green Terror return to the Gill Center on Tuesday to square off against Wilson at 7 pm.
