WESTMINSTER, Md. - The McDaniel College women's soccer team limited No. 2-ranked Messiah to just four shots on goal in a 1-0 loss on Wednesday at the Soccer Complex.
The Green Terror (2-2-1) suffered their first loss in the last three home games against the Falcons after wins in 2021 and 2023.
Wednesday's game also marked the sixth consecutive meeting between the two teams that was decided by two goals or less, including the fourth by just one goal.
Sophomore
Mack Langlo tied her career high with three first-half saves while allowing just one goal against the Falcons (5-0) who have outscored its opponents 9-0 this season with five shutouts.
Brittany Laird scored the game's only goal, and her first of the season, off an assist from Hannah Adair in the 17th minute. Adair chipped the ball forward into the penalty box where Laird slotted it into the lower left corner from just outside the goal box.
Messiah took 15 shots in the contest, but just four on goal, all of which came in the first half.
First-year
Alaina Miller recorded the lone shot for McDaniel that was saved by the Falcons' Ava Wert.
First-year
Carly Helmstetter and junior
Sidda Mitchell each made their first starts of the season with Helmstetter's also marking the first of her career.
McDaniel has lost back-to-back home games for the first time since Oct. 22 and Oct. 28, 2014 when it fell to Gettysburg, 2-1, and Johns Hopkins, 3-1.
The Green Terror, who were ranked at No. 8 in Tuesday's United Soccer Coaches Region V Poll, have a week before returning to action next Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Penn State Harrisburg. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
