Fourth Quarter Surge Leads Randolph-Macon Past Field Hockey

ASHLAND, Va. - Two fourth-quarter goals broke a scoreless tie and gave Randolph-Macon a 2-0 win over the McDaniel College field hockey team in the season opener for both squads on Saturday.

The Green Terror (0-1) dropped their second-straight contest in the series against the Yellow Jackets after having won the previous three meetings.

The match remained scoreless through three quarters with McDaniel holding an 8-5 edge in shots through the first three frames. Randolph-Macon (1-0) recorded six saves and took eight shots in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Charley Noah and first year Caydence Stone each took shots in the first quarter but were turned away both times. Three penalty corners for the Yellow Jackets yielded no goals to keep the contest scoreless. Noah took three more shots in the second, two of which were saved while one was blocked. Hailey Swartzbaugh made a timely defensive save for Randolph-Macon in the third quarter to keep the scoreless tie intact.

Nearly three minutes into the fourth quarter, Cali Kujawa scored the game's first goal on a rebound after a save from junior Lora Scarangello. The Yellow Jackets took three shots and two penalty corners in a span of 75 seconds before netting the contest's second goal with just under a minute left to secure the win.

Noah finished the day with a team-leading five shots and four shots on goal while Stone and sophomore Summer Gregory each had a single shot on goal. Scarangello played all 60 minutes in the cage and recorded four saves facing 10 shots and five on goal.

The Green Terror hit the road again on Tuesday as they travel to Frederick to take on Hood. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
