Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Neary Nets Three Points in Return, McDaniel Opens With Shutout

ALTOONA, Pa. - Senior Carver Neary picked up a goal and an assist in his first game back for the McDaniel College men's soccer team in a 3-0 season-opening shutout at Penn State Altoona Friday.

The Green Terror (1-0) posted its 12th shutout in its last 21 games while posting its first season-opening win since 2022 when they beat Immaculata on the road also by a score of 3-0.

Neary, who spent the 2024 season at Lynchburg appearing in 14 games for the Hornets, netted his fourth career goal in 32 games for McDaniel and first since Sept. 10, 2023 in a 1-1 tie at Bridgewater.

Neary scored the eventual game-winning goal just 14 minutes into the contest off an assist from first-year Kristerson Mitchell who picked up his first collegiate point.

Just seven minutes later, Neary notched his third career assist when he connected with junior Mike Mevo for his fourth career tally to double the Green Terror lead.

McDaniel held its 2-0 lead at halftime after out-shooting the Nittany Lions, 11-1.

Holding the same margin, the Green Terror provided the final margin when first-year Joseph Arthur netted his first career goal off an assist from senior Conor O'Brien in the 70th minute. O'Brien picked up his first point since Oct. 5, 2022 in a 6-0 win over Christendom at home.

Led by seniors Noah Rodriguez and Chase Osborn, the McDaniel defense limited Penn State Altoona (0-1) to just one shot, finishing the game with a 19-1 advantage, including a 10-0 margin in shots on goal. The visitors also held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks with a 5-0 edge in the second half.

Junior Tate Roth, who was an All-Centennial Conference First Team and United Soccer Coaches All-Region V Fourth Team selection last year, made his 20th career start and did not have to make a save as he earned a combined shutout with sophomore Joseph Peloquin.

The Green Terror make their home debut on Sunday when they host a non-conference contest versus Shenandoah at the Soccer Complex. Kick off is at 3:00 p.m. following the women's game against Rutgers-Camden.
