Skelly Nets Hat-Trick in Road Loss at Washington College

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Washington College used a 12-goal run to erase a two-goal deficit after the first quarter en route to a 20-6 victory over the McDaniel College men's lacrosse team Wednesday night.
 
The Green Terror (4-9, 0-4 CC) scored the final three goals of the first quarter, including the first two from sophomore Cash Stanton, and led 3-1 after the first 15 minutes.
 
However, the Shoremen responded with eight unanswered goals in the second to take a 9-3 halftime lead.
 
After an evenly played first quarter, Washington out-shot the visitors 16-6 in the second and won seven of nine face-offs.
 
The Shoremen (7-6, 1-4 CC) scored the first four goals of the second half to stretch their lead to 13-3.
 
Sophomore Aidan Skelly totaled his third career hat-trick and second in the last three games with three goals while Stanton had two goals and graduate student defender Thomas Bethune scored for the third time this season.
 
Graduate student Nick Wingo snapped a two-game scoreless streak with his 11th goal of the season. He had scored at least one point in each of the team's first 10 games this season.
 
Senior Jason Fritz had three assists and now has 196 career points with 98 goals and 98 assists.
 
Sophomore Brexton Carter finished with four ground balls and two caused turnovers while junior Jack Sabo had two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
 
Sophomore Zach Olvey made eight saves in 47 minutes before giving way to junior Seth Hurt who had one stop over the final 13.
 
McDaniel plays the first of back-to-back nationally ranked opponents on Saturday when it heads to No. 18 Swarthmore. Face-off is scheduled for noon.
