WASHINGTON D.C. - Led by sophomore Sophia Leone, the McDaniel College women's track & field team placed third at the Bison Classic hosted by Gallaudet on Saturday.
The Green Terror placed third out of nine teams with 45 points. Division I Howard won the meet with 114 points while Medger Evers finished second with 53 points.
Leone won the pole vault with a mark of 3.19m (10' 5.5"), resetting her own program record for a second week in-a-row. Freshman Tara Hornung placed second with a mark of 3.04m (9' 11.75") to move into fourth in program history.
Junior Summer James placed fourth with a mark of 2.29m (7' 6") while junior Allison Rolek placed fifth jumping the same height as James.
The 4x400-meter relay team of junior Anna Rando, junior Piper Nagaraj, junior Anna Kale and sophomore Maya Colavito won with a time of 4:49.45.
Freshman Gabby DeMarco placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 10.27m (33' 8.5") to move to ninth in program history.
DeMarco placed second in the long jump with a mark of 5.04m (16' 6.5"), Rando placed fourth at 4.57m (15' 0") and freshman Maddie Alexander jumped 3.78m (12' 5") to place sixth.
Colavito placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 13:29.70 and Hornung placed second in the high jump with a mark of 1.40m (4' 7").
Freshman Nakayla Ross placed third in the 200 meters with a time of 28.12 seconds and freshman Jazmeen Yelverton placed sixth in 29.72 seconds.
Kale placed fourth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:30.19 while junior Natalie Kaminsky placed ninth in 6:08.52 and junior Abby Warner crossed the line in 6:11.29 to place 10th.
Junior Kate Principio placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 24.59m (80' 8") and also placed eighth in hammer with a throw of 28.39m (93' 2").
Nagaraj placed fifth in the 800 meters in a time of 2:41.31. Warner ran 3:03.01 to place 11th and freshman Riley Friedman ran 3:17.89 to place 13th.
Rando placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.42 seconds.
Ross placed ninth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.41 seconds while Yelverton placed 15th in 14.58 seconds. Rolek placed 17th in 14.99 and Alexander had a time of 15.65 seconds to place 21st.
Nagaraj placed 10th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:10.28 and Alexander placed 13th in the shot put with a throw of 5.88m (19' 3.5").
The Green Terror return to action on Friday, April 11 at the Messiah Invitational.
