WAYNESBORO, Pa. - The McDaniel College men's golf team posted its best opening round score at the Centennial Conference Men's Golf Championship since 2018 at Waynesboro Country Club on Friday.
The Green Terror currently sit in fourth place with a 300. They totaled a 299 in the opening round on April 27, 2018 en route to a second-place finish.
Swarthmore sits in first place with a two-under par 286, the second-best team single-round score in CCÂ history. Gettysburg is just one stroke behind with a 287 while Franklin & Marshall is in third with a 294.
The individual lead also sits at two-under par as three players are tied after an opening round 70, the third-lowest first round score in CC championship history.
Juniors
Sean Kelly and
Charlie Dolan led McDaniel with a one-over par 73 and are currently tied for eighth. Playing in his first conference championship, Kelly totaled one birdie, 15 pars and two bogeys on his way to carding his second-lowest round of the season. He turned in a 70 in the second round of the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic on Oct. 6.
Dolan also carded one birdie, 15 pars and two bogeys. He was two-over par through five holes before finishing the final 13 at one-under.
Senior
Matt Messenger currently sits in 16th place after a three-over par 75, his best score in four rounds in the conference championship. It was just two strokes off his season low set in the second round at the Northeast Elite on Sept. 29.

Hogan Schulze shot a 79 to place 25th. Junior
Ethan Crabb turned in an 80 and sits in 28th.
Second round competition gets underway on Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m.
