CARLISLE, Pa. – Dickinson used a nine-run first inning to defeat the McDaniel College baseball team 14-2 on Tuesday in the first game of a home-and-home between the two teams.
The loss drops the Green Terror (16-19-1, 7-8) into a three-way tie for fourth place in the Centennial Conference standings, along with the Red Devils (16-16, 7-8) and Franklin & Marshall. The top five teams make the Centennial Conference tournament.
A leadoff single in the first began the nine-run frame for Dickinson, as the Red Devils scored the game's first run on an RBI single into left field. A two-run single was followed by two straight RBI hits as the Red Devils made the score 5-0. After a pitching change, four more runs crossed the plate as Dickinson ended the first ahead 9-0.
The Red Devils added two more runs in the second and another in the third. A two-spot in the fifth increased the lead, but the Green Terror responded with two runs of their own in the seventh.

Zach Gaeta scored McDaniel's first run on an RBI groundout to score freshman
Thomas Mezzullo. Sophomore
Ethan Haddock then reached base on an error in the infield, allowing sophomore
Quinn Dean to score from third. Dickinson closed out the game in the seventh via run rule.
Mezzullo and Dean each had a hit and scored a run while junior
Ben Davis went 1-for-2 with a walk. Gaeta earned his second RBI of the season in the loss.

The Green Terror return to Preston Field to face the Red Devils on Friday for their final regular season home game. First pitch is at 3:30 pm.
