WESTMINSTER, Md. - Senior
Shane Daly hit his first home run of the season and finished with three RBIs to lead the McDaniel College baseball team to a 7-2 win over Dickinson on Friday at Preston Field.
The win places the Green Terror (17-19-1, 8-8 CC) into a tie for third place in the Centennial Conference standings with Haverford. McDaniel holds the tiebreaker over the Fords after a sweep on March 29. The top five teams qualify for the Centennial Conference tournament.
The Red Devils started the scoring in the first inning on an RBI single to lead 1-0. Daly tied the game in the bottom half on an RBI double to score sophomore
Ethan Haddock. Junior
Ben Davis notched an RBI hit to score Daly and give the Green Terror the lead at the end of one, 2-1.
Dickinson (16-17, 7-9 CC) responded in the top of the third on an RBI double down the left field line, tying the game at 2-2. Graduate student
Joey Hubinger broke the tie in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run to left center field, his first round-tripper of the season.
The Green Terror plated three runs in the fifth to take control of the contest. Haddock hit a one-out single into left field, and Daly drilled a two-run homer to make the score 5-2. Davis followed up with a triple, and a sacrifice fly from sophomore
Shea McKenna scored Davis from third to give McDaniel a 6-2 lead after five.
Dickinson placed runners on the corners in the seventh but could not convert on the scoring chance after a pitching change. The Red Devils then placed two runners in scoring position in the eighth, abandoning both to keep the margin at four.
Sophomore
Quinn Dean added the seventh and final run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single to score Hubinger. Senior
Conor Henderson closed the door in the ninth, inducing three straight deep flyouts to seal the win for McDaniel, 7-2.
Daly finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored in the win. Haddock had a three-hit day at the plate, going 3-for-4 and scoring two runs. Davis and Hubinger both collected two hits, with Hubinger scoring twice and drawing a walk. Dean had an RBI hit while freshman
Thomas Mezzullo also reached base with a hit in the win.
Freshman
Brady Harach earned the win on the mound, pitching four innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits while walking one and striking out one. Sophomore
Dominic DiBlasi pitched 2.2 innings in relief, tying his season-high with four strikeouts.
The Green Terror wrap up the regular season with a road trip to Swarthmore on Sunday for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
