ERIE, Pa. - Led by 37 second-half points, the McDaniel College women's basketball team posted a 52-39 victory over Alvernia Saturday in the quarterfinals of the ECAC Women's Basketball Championship.
The Green Terror (18-9) posted their first postseason win since a 73-58 win over Delaware Valley at home on March 5, 2014.
Freshman
Lauren Cavoli and junior
Elaina Beckett combined for 23 points as McDaniel outscored the Golden Wolves 37-18 in the second half. The Green Terror shot nearly 42 percent while limiting Alvernia to just 25.0 percent.
Cavoli finished with a career-high 15 points, including 12 in the second half. She also added four assists and three rebounds.
Beckett scored 13 points with 11 coming in the second half. She now has 989 career points, 11 shy of becoming the 17th player in program history to score 1,000.
Senior
Lil Overcash totaled 11 rebounds and eight assists, both career highs.
The Golden Wolves (13-3) led 24-23 with 6:54 remaining in the third quarter before a 10-0 run gave McDaniel the lead for good, 33-24. Beckett and Cavoli combined for nine of the 10 points.
The Green Terror stretched their lead to as many as 16 in the fourth as they held their opponent to 40 points or less for the fourth time this season.
McDaniel avenged a 57-48 loss to Alvernia from earlier this season on Dec. 8.
The Green Terror will face Allegheny in the semifinals on Sunday at 1 p.m. after the Gators posted a 71-61 victory over host Penn State Behrend on Saturday.
