PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Senior
Will Beacham scored on the man-advantage with less than four minutes remaining to lift the McDaniel College men's lacrosse team to a 7-6 come-from-behind road win over Chatham Saturday.
The Green Terror (2-4) snapped a four-game losing streak with their fourth consecutive win over the Cougars and second in as many meetings at UPMC Graham Field.
McDaniel trailed 6-3 with 12:45 left in the fourth quarter before junior
Ryan Smith scored with 10:48 to play for the first of four unanswered goals.
Sophomore
Carter Youtz netted his sixth goal of the season off an assist from sophomore
Brexton Carter with 5:48 remaining before graduate student
Nick Wingo tied the game just 44 seconds later.
With the contest tied for the first time since it was 1-1 with 11 minutes left in the first, Beacham scored what would be his first game-winning goal since April 4, 2023 at Juniata with a man-up goal off an assist from senior
Jason Fritz.
Fritz finished the game with four points as he assisted on four of the team's seven goals. He now has 10 goals and 10 assists in six games this season and in 48 career games, has totaled 86 goals and 85 assists for 171 points.
Chatham (4-3) held a 17-6 edge in shots in the opening quarter and won all six face-offs, but led by just one, 3-2, thanks in part to five saves from sophomore
Zach Olvey.
Over the final three quarters, the Green Terror out-shot the Cougars 29-23, got 12 more saves from Olvey, and won five face-offs compared to six for the hosts.
A total of eight players had at least one point for McDaniel, including six with at least one goal. Wingo finished with two.
Olvey headlined the defense with a career-high 17 saves while senior
Jake Arcilesi totaled four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
The Green Terror play their third game in seven days on Tuesday when they head to Immaculata. Face-off is set for 4 p.m.
