Bethune Scores Twice in 15-5 Loss to No. 18 Dickinson

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Graduate student Thomas Bethune scored two goals as the McDaniel College men's lacrosse team dropped a Centennial Conference contest to No. 18 Dickinson Wednesday at Gill Stadium, 15-5.

The Green Terror (4-6, 0-2 CC) scored all five goals in the second half, including the first from Bethune with seven seconds remaining in the third quarter.

A defenseman, Bethune scored his first two goals in a McDaniel uniform and the third and fourth of his career. He also scored twice in four seasons at Stevenson from 2021-24.

Senior Jason Fritz also had two points with one goal and one assist. He now has 95 goals and 93 assists for 188 points in 52 career games.

The Red Devils (5-4, 2-0 CC) scored the game's first 10 goals. They netted seven in the opening quarter, including three from Landen Hyatt as the visitors held a 17-3 advantage in shots and won all eight face-offs.

Sophomore Zach Olvey made six of his 13 saves in the first 15 minutes. He has totaled at least 10 saves in seven of his nine starts this season.

Dickinson added three more goals in the second quarter to take a 10-0 lead at halftime before things settled down and the two teams went back-and-fourth in the second half. Both teams scored five goals in the last 30 minutes while each totaled 16 shots and 14 ground balls over the final two quarters.

The Green Terror also held a 7-6 edge in face-off wins and forced 11 turnovers. Olvey also made six saves.

Graduate student Nick Wingo got McDaniel on the board with 4:09 remaining in the third quarter as the Green Terror scored five of the final eight goals. In addition to two from Bethune and one from Fritz, sophomore Reagan Wilson picked up his third of the year with 3:12 to play.

Senior Jake Arcilesi and junior Finn Forcucci each had two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Junior TJ Bunce won six face-offs and had five ground balls.

McDnaiel continues its three-game home stand on Saturday when it welcomes local rival Hood to Gill Stadium. Face-off is at noon.
