Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Stroud, Skelly Lead McDaniel in 10-9 Overtime Loss to Hood

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Jay Lanigan scored with 2:37 remaining in the first overtime to lead Hood to a 10-9 overtime victory over the McDaniel College men's lacrosse team Saturday inside Gill Stadium.

The Green Terror (4-7) lost for the first time in the last four meetings against the Blazers. Saturday marked the first meeting between the two teams in Westminster since April 4, 2007.

After a shot by Isiac Nafziger went wide, Lanigan took the ball straight to goal after the restart and stuck a shot in the top corner from the left side to keep the Blazers unbeaten in three road contests this season.

Freshman Brock Stroud led McDaniel with two goals, two assists and four points, all career highs. Sophomore Aidan Skelly scored three goals, recording his second career hat-trick and first since he had four goals in the season opener versus Gwynedd Mercy.

Skelly's third goal tied the game at 9-9 with 1:33 remaining off an assist from senior Jason Fritz.

Fritz finished with two goals and one assist and now leads the team with 21 goals, 19 assists and 40 points this season. He now has 97 goals and 94 assists for 191 points in 53 career games.

The game featured three ties and three lead changes. Hood (6-1) jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the first quarter before the Green Terror scored seven of the next nine goals to take their first lead, 8-7 with 6:04 left in the fourth quarter.

Lanigan scored his first goal just 38 seconds later before Aidan Gilsdorf put the Blazers back in front, 9-8 with 4:30 to play. Both goals were assisted by Nafziger.

Skelly and graduate student Thomas Bethune each had two caused turnovers while junior TJ Bunce won nine face-offs and picked up four ground balls. Sophomore Zach Olvey made eight saves.

McDaniel wraps up its three-game home stand next Saturday, April 5 when it hosts Franklin & Marshall. Game time is at noon.
