WESTMINSTER, Md. – Sophomore
Shea McKenna had a 5-for-5 day with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead the McDaniel College baseball team to a 15-5 win over Wilson on Tuesday from Preston Field.
McKenna is the first player to record five hits in a game for the Green Terror (8-11-1) this season. He is the first player to do so since junior
Ben Davis had five hits against Washington College on Apr. 23, 2024.
McKenna got the scoring started in the first inning with an RBI double that scored graduate student
Joey Hubinger. Junior
Matt Fuller added an RBI single to left field and freshman
Austin Sealing singled up the middle to score sophomore
DJ Stolba and give McDaniel a 3-0 lead after one.
In his second at-bat, McKenna singled to left field, scoring junior
Todd Calhoun. Stolba, Fuller and Sealing all earned RBIs at the end of the batting order to increase the Green Terror lead to 7-0 after two innings.
A 1-2-3 inning for the Phoenix (3-12) gave way to another multi-run inning for McDaniel in the third. Calhoun reached base with a single and advanced to second with a stolen base. McKenna scored Calhoun with his third hit of the day – another RBI single. Sophomore
Ethan Haddock earned an RBI on a groundout to score Davis.
Wilson got on the board in the fourth inning and kept McDaniel off the board in the fourth and fifth. But the Green Terror responded in the sixth with another three runs. Hubinger earned an RBI on a sacrifice fly in foul territory to score Sealing, then Davis ripped a two-run single into right field that scored Calhoun and freshman
Thomas Mezzullo.
Mezzullo reached on a fielder's choice that scored Stolba in the seventh inning, pushing the lead to 13-1. Stolba added an RBI on another sacrifice fly and junior
Brady Goyne walked with the bases loaded to add one final run to the scoreboard. Wilson scored four runs in the ninth but the Green Terror closed the door to win 15-5.
Davis went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Stolba, Fuller and Sealing each had two RBIs while Hubinger added three runs scored. Calhoun had a three-hit game and scored three runs. In total, eight of McDaniel's nine starting batters earned a base hit in the win, and five batters had multiple base hits on the day.
Freshman
Brady Harach earned his first career win, pitching two innings and giving up only one hit and one walk. Six Green Terror pitchers took the mound in the win, combing for five strikeouts, six base hits and only three walks.
The Green Terror continue a five-game homestand with a midweek showdown against Lancaster Bible on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 3:30 pm from Preston Field.
