Baseball Totals 18 Hits in 12-7 Loss to Plymouth State

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The McDaniel College baseball team totaled 18 hits, including home runs from sophomore Ethan Haddock and junior Ben Davis in a 12-7 loss to Plymouth State on Wednesday at Myrtle Beach High School.

The Green Terror (6-9-1) had six batters with multiple base hits, including graduate student Joey Hubinger. Following his three-hit performance, Hubinger now has 199 for his career and needs one more to become just the third player in program history with 200.

The Panthers scored first on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Freshman Anthony Cerone tied the contest in the bottom half with an RBI-single through the left side to knot the game at 1-1.

Four-straight runs over the next three innings put the Panthers ahead, 5-1, before Davis turned the tide with a solo home run in the fifth inning, his third of the season.

Plymouth State (2-4) would counter with a seven-run inning in the sixth, giving the Panthers a 12-2 lead.

McDaniel began a late comeback effort in the seventh with an RBI-single from junior Matt Fuller. Freshman Henry Novario followed with an RBI-single of his own to score Fuller. Sophomore DJ Stolba reached base on a fielder's choice, allowing Davis to score from third.

Haddock hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth but McDaniel couldn't complete the comeback despite scoring five unanswered runs.

Haddock finished the day 2-for-6 with a home run while Davis added another base hit to go along with his solo homer.

Hubinger was 3-for-6 with a run scored and freshman Cameron Simon also had a three-hit day, finishing 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Novario was the third Green Terror batter with a three-hit game, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a walk.

Freshman Austin Sealing got the start and the loss for McDaniel, giving up four earned runs and five hits in 2.1 innings of work. Sophomore Ryan Buecker pitched 1.1 innings in relief, leading all five pitchers with two strikeouts.

The Green Terror conclude their spring break trip with one final game tonight against Old Westbury. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
