WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic scored the first three goals and led 6-2 after the first quarter en route to a 15-6 win over the McDaniel College men's lacrosse team Saturday at Carlini Field.
In the first-ever meeting between the two schools, the Green Terror (1-3) had five different goal scorers and six players with a point.
Graduate student
Nick Wingo led the way with two goals while senior
Jason Fritz and sophomore
Aidan Skelly each had two points
The Cardinals (1-2) led 3-0 just 3:34 into the contest before back-to-back tallies from Wingo and Skelly pulled the visitors with one with 7:25 remaining in the first quarter.
However, four consecutive goals put Catholic in front 7-2 with less than 10 minutes left in the second. After Wingo's second goal with 7:12 to play in the first half.
Three more unanswered tallies put the Cardinals ahead 10-3 before they took an 11-4 lead after three.
The fourth quarter was back-and-forth as Fritz and senior
Will Beacham each netted goals before Catholic sealed their first win with the final two tallies.
Defensively, junior
Jack Sabo totaled three ground balls and three caused turnovers while junior
Finn Forcucci and sophomore
Leo Hale combined for seven ground balls and one caused turnover.
Sophomore
Zach Olvey made a career-high 14 saves.
McDaniel returns to action on Wednesday against Shenandoah. Face-off is at 7:30 p.m. following the women's game versus Juniata.
