CHESTERTOWN, Md. - A late rally by the McDaniel College women's basketball team fell short in a 45-40 loss at Washington College Tuesday night in the first round of the 2025 Centennial Conference Women's Basketball Championship.
The Green Terror (17-9), who were making their first appearance in the conference tournament since 2016, will now await selections for the 2025 ECAC Division III Women's Basketball Championship on Monday, March 3.
Junior
Elaina Beckett totaled 15 points and 11 rebounds, recording her fourth double double this season and third in last four games. She now has 976 career points as she looks to become the 17th player in program history to reach 1,000.
Trailing by 12 entering the fourth quarter, McDaniel outscored the Shorewomen 12-5 in the fourth quarter, cutting its deficit to five on a jumper by Beckett with 2:52 remaining.
However, that would be as close as the visitors could get as neither team would score the rest of the way. Washington missed all six of its free throw attempts over the final two minutes, but the Green Terror missed their final five attempts from the floor, including two from three-point range.
McDaniel trailed 43-31 with 7:49 to play, but led by eight points from Beckett, used a 9-2 run to cut its deficit to 45-40.
The Shorewomen (16-9) led by just two after the first quarter, 14-12, but extended that to 12 entering the fourth after outscoring the visitors 26-16 over the next two quarters, limiting them to 6-of-33 shooting over that span.
As the Green Terror made their comeback bid in the fourth, they limiting the hosts to just 1-of-8 shooting. Washington was also made just 3-of-10 attempts from the free throw line.
Beckett was the lone player in double figures for McDaniel as senior
Lil Overcash had six points and four rebounds and freshman
Lauren Cavoli also added six points. Sophomore
Teya McConnaha had four points, eight rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.
Karry Kelliher had 15 points and five assists while Kiersten Rose had a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds as the Shorewomen avenged a 51-43 loss on the same court back on Feb. 5.
Washington will travel to second-seeded Gettysburg on Friday in the semifinals.
