Fritz Nets Five Points, Goucher Rallies For 9-7 Win

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Senior Jason Fritz scored five points, but two fourth-quarter goals carried Goucher to a 9-7 win over the McDaniel College men's lacrosse team Saturday inside Gill Stadium.

The Green Terror (1-2) totaled 45 shots and won a season-high 13 face-offs.

Fritz finished with two goals and three assists. He now has 83 career goals and 79 career assists for 162 points. Sophomore Aidan Skelly also had two goals with one assist for three points.

McDaniel scored the game's first four goals in the first eight minutes and led 4-0 after the first quarter. Fritz and Skelly each had a goal and an assist and two of the goals.

However, the Gophers (2-0) outscored the Green Terror 5-1 in the second quarter to tie the game at 5-5 headed into halftime. Jacob Morgan assisted on four of the five goals. He finished with five assists and six points.

Each team scored two goals in the third, with both netting tallies in the final minute to send the game to the fourth and final quarter tied at 7-7.

Tyler May scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 13:08 remaining in the fourth before Morgan scored his only goal to provide insurance with 10:19 to play.

Jake Smith made 18 saves in goal for Goucher, including eight in the first quarter to keep the visitors within striking distance. Sophomore Zach Olvey made seven saves for McDaniel.

Junior TJ Bunce won 11-of-15 face-offs and picked up seven ground balls while junior Finn Forcucci had three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

The Green Terror travel to the nation's capital next Saturday, March 1 to take on Catholic. Face-off is at noon.
