ASHLAND, Va. - Randolph-Macon scored six unanswered goals to start the third quarter, turning a one-goal lead into seven en route to a 10-5 victory over the McDaniel College men's lacrosse team Tuesday at Day Field.
The Green Terror (1-1) scored the game's first goal when senior
Jason Fritz scored unassisted less than three minutes in. However, the Yellow Jackets responded with three goals in just 2:22 to take a 3-1 lead before Fritz added his second tally midway through the second quarter.
Randolph-Macon (3-0) held its 3-2 lead at the end of the first half before scoring the first six goals of the third quarter to take a 9-2 lead with 7:11 remaining.
Sophomore
Aidan Skelly and senior
Sean Maruschak scored back-to-back to end the third quarter before Skelly added his second of the game and team-leading sixth of the season to open the fourth, pulling the visitors within four with 12:07 left.
The Yellow Jackets won all nine face-offs in the third quarter while limiting McDaniel to just 2-of-6 on clear attempts and forcing six turnovers. They also held a 13-3 edge in shots.
Sophomore
Zach Olvey faced 42 shots and finished with a career-high 12 saves, five of which came in the fourth quarter. Sophomore
Brexton Carter had five ground balls and one caused turnover.
McDaniel returns home on Saturday to host local rival Goucher at Gill Stadium. Opening face-off is at noon.
