BRYN MAWR, Pa. – A 17-0 run to start the game sparked a 59-45 road win for the McDaniel College women's basketball team over Bryn Mawr on Saturday afternoon.
The Green Terror (16-7, 7-5) secured their seventh road win in their final road game of the season, the team's highest total since 2015-16.
Senior
Lil Overcash tied her season-high with 17 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Junior
Elaina Beckett scored 13 points and grabbed a team-best nine rebounds. Sophomore
Teya McConnaha chipped in with seven points and seven rebounds in 24 minutes.
McDaniel dominated the opening quarter, starting with a 17-0 run that stretched until the 2:15 mark. Overcash scored nine of her 17 points during the run, and the Green Terror held the Owls (7-16, 0-13) to 2-of-14 shooting in the quarter. th time in 23 games this season the team has outscored its opponent in the first quarter.
Bryn Mawr battled back with an extended run in the second quarter, taking a 22-21 lead with 1:28 left in the period. Free throws from freshman
Lauren Cavoli gave the Green Terror the lead back with 35 seconds left before halftime, and Overcash nailed a jumper with one second left to head into the break with a 25-22 lead.
McDaniel used another quarter-opening run to pull away in the third. The Green Terror scored the first eight points of the second half and eventually grew the lead to 20 just before the quarter's end. McDaniel outscored Bryn Mawr 26-11 in the quarter, shooting nearly 62 percent from the floor.
The Green Terror earned their largest lead of the game with 6:42 left in the fourth, going up by 22 after a jumper from senior
Peyton Tague. The Owls mounted a late comeback but McDaniel held off the rally for their seventh and final road win of the season.
McDaniel used big scoring bursts in the first and third quarters to secure victory. The Green Terror controlled the game defensively, outrebounding the Owls 45-25 and forcing 21 Bryn Mawr turnovers.
The Green Terror return home to the Gill Center on Wednesday to face No. 13 Gettysburg. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 pm.
