Contee Joins 1,000-Point Club in Loss to Franklin & Marshall

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Graduate Student Chuck Contee scored his 1,000th career point in a 69-57 loss for the McDaniel College men's basketball team to Franklin & Marshall on Saturday inside the Gill Center.

Contee became the 19th player in program history to score 1,000 career points, reaching the milestone on a corner three-pointer with 14:27 to play in the second half. He led the team with 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting, make 3-of-8 three-point attempts.

Junior David Kearney scored 18 points, connecting on 6-of-10 shots from the floor, making 5-of-6 free throws and leading the team with five rebounds. Junior Jonas Sujeta finished with seven points and four boards, making 3-of-8 field goals.

The first half was a back-and-forth battle with five ties and 12 lead changes. Neither team gained a lead larger than four throughout the half, with Franklin & Marshall taking a four-point lead into intermission after breaking a 26-26 tie down the stretch.

The Green Terror (11-8, 1-6) began the second half on a 7-0 run. McDaniel gained its largest lead at seven after a Contee layup with 13:48 to play in the contest. The Diplomats (13-6, 5-2) quickly responded with a 9-0 run to snatch the lead back, eventually growing the lead to eight at the 4:37 mark. A 6-0 run over the next three minutes put the game out of reach, as Franklin & Marshall closed the game on a 31-12 run over the final 13 minutes.

The Diplomats shot over 61 percent from the floor in the second half while the Green Terror could only make 46 percent of their shots. Despite making a higher percentage of their free throws, the Green Terror gave the Diplomats ample chances to increase the lead at the foul line, with Franklin & Marshall shooting 18 free throws in the second half.

McDaniel hits the road on Wednesday for another Centennial Conference showdown against Washington College. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 pm.
