COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Sophomore
Lauren Cavoli scored a career-high 26 points, including 15 in the fourth quarter, to lead the McDaniel College women's basketball team to a 66-57 Centennial Conference victory at Ursinus on Saturday.
The Green Terror (8-1, 1-1 CC) picked up their first conference win of the season and snapped a five-game losing streak at Hellferich Hall, posting their first victory since a 49-41 win on Jan. 20, 2018.
Cavoli scored nine of her 15 fourth-quarter points at the free throw line where she went 9-for-10, including a perfect 6-for-6 in the final 41 seconds to secure the win. She also had three rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Cavoli's previous career high was 15 points set twice during her first season versus Muhlenberg and Alvernia.
Senior
Elaina Beckett had 21 points, her seventh game this season and 20th of her career with at least 20. She added six rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and three steals.
Meanwhile, junior
Raegan Lenz posted a career-high 12 rebounds and eight blocks to go along with five points and three assists. Her eight blocks are the third-most in a single game in program history behind current Associate Vice President of Constituent Engagement, Heidi Reigel '97, who had 10 at Washington College on Feb. 9, 1995 and nine versus Gallaudet on Feb. 2, 1995.
McDaniel led 16-11 at the end of the first quarter, but the Bears (6-3, 1-1 CC) outscored the visitors 14-6 in the second, limiting them to just 3-of-11 shooting to take a 25-22 halftime lead.
However, the Green Terror reversed the tables in the third, outscoring the hosts 18-9 with four three-pointers while holding them to 3-of-14 shooting to take a 40-34 lead.
The two teams combined for 49 fourth-quarter points and were 7-of-10 from three-point range, but after six-straight points pulled Ursinus within one, 41-40, McDaniel answered with back-to-back three-pointers from Beckett and Cavoli to take a 47-42 advantage.
From there, Cavoli scored 12Â of the team's final 19 points over the last six minutes to secure the lead and the win.
Sophomore
Kendra Mason finished with seven points, four rebounds, and three assists, all season highs while junior
Teya McConnaha added four points, five rebounds, two assists, and two blocks.
As a team, the Green Terror totaled a season-high 12 blocks.
McDaniel continues its four-game road trip next Saturday, Dec. 13 when it makes the short trip to Frederick for a non-conference contest against Hood. Tip-off is at 1 p.m.
