Beckett’s Double-Double Highlights 62-44 Road Win Over Hood

FREDERICK, Md. – Senior Elaina Beckett tallied her third double-double of the season with 18 points and 14 rebounds in a 62-44 road win for the McDaniel College women's basketball team over Hood on Saturday.

The Green Terror (9-1) have nine wins in their first 10 games for the first time since the 2014-15 season when the team finished with a 24-4 record and made its most recent NCAA Tournament appearance.

McDaniel outscored the Blazers 19-3 in the first quarter, opening the game on a 17-0 run. Five different players scored points in the opening frame while the team forced nine Hood turnovers.

Beckett scored seven of her 18 points in the quarter while junior Teya McConnaha converted a three-point play and sophomore Kendra Mason hit a triple just before the five-minute mark.

First year Riley Stigler started the second quarter with a three-pointer to increase the lead to 17. Beckett nailed a three with 1:34 to play to give McDaniel its first 20-point lead of the half, later converting on a layup with 45 seconds left to make the score 36-12 at halftime.

The Blazers (2-5) battled back in the second half, outscoring McDaniel 22-12 in the fourth quarter. McDaniel gained its largest lead of the game following a jumper from junior Jess Pronchick with 6:29 to play, making the score 57-25. Hood followed with a 10-0 run to cut into the lead, but a three-pointer from sophomore Lauren Cavoli with just over three-minutes left sealed the win for the visitors.

Beckett finished as the game's leading scorer with 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting while collecting a season-high 14 boards. McConnaha and junior Raegan Lenz each finished with eight points while senior Jordan McLean had six.

McDaniel forced 23 Hood turnovers and converted them into 23 points. The Green Terror controlled the glass 42-31 and outscored the Blazers in the paint, 34-22.

The Green Terror will travel to Galloway, N.J. on Monday to face Stockton. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m.
