THREE-PEAT! McDaniel Wins Third-Straight Tip-Off Title

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Led by junior Raegan Lenz and senior Elaina Beckett, the McDaniel College women's basketball team won its third consecutive Rebecca Martin Memorial Tip-Off Tournament with a 58-45 victory over Misericordia Saturday.

The Green Terror (2-0) have won three of the five tournament titles since it was renamed in honor of the Hall of Fame coach prior to the 2021 season.

Lenz was named to her first All-Tournament Team, earning Most Valuable Player honors after averaging 14.0 points, seven rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 5.0 blocks. She totaled 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and seven blocks in the championship game.

Meanwhile, Beckett was named to the All-Tournament Team for the fourth year in-a-row after averaging 18.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.5 assists. She earned Most Valuable Player honors in 2023 and 2024.

McDaniel seized control of the game early and never trailed, leading by as many as 23 midway through the second quarter. Led by nine points from Beckett and seven from junior Teya McConnaha, the team led 22-5 after the first quarter, limiting the Cougars to just 2-of-12 shooting and scoring 11 points off six turnovers.

Misericordia (1-1) rallied in the second, holding the Green Terror to 4-of-16 shooting, but still trailed by 13 at the half, 30-17.

The visitors continued their push to start the second half, outscoring McDaniel 22-13 in the third, and using a 18-4 run to cut their deficit to just two, 41-39, following a three-point play by Brenna Hunt with 42 seconds remaining.

However, that would be as close as the Cougars would get as the Green Terror opened the final quarter on an 11-2 run of their own to seal the win. Lenz scored six points during the run while Beckett added three, seven of which came from the free throw line.

McDaniel scored 11 of its 15 fourth-quarter points at the free throw line where it made 11-of-14. Conversely, the team held Misericordia to just six points in the quarter, all of which came at the free throw line as the visitors were 0-of-9 from the floor with five turnovers.

Beckett just missed a second-straight double double as she finished with 20 points and nine rebounds, as did McConnaha with nine points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Lauren Cavoli also added nine points.

McDaniel returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts York College of Pennsylvania for a 6 p.m. tip-off. The Green Terror won last year's meeting in York, Pa., 66-52.
