McDaniel Continues to Overpower in Seventh-Straight Win

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Another fast start led the McDaniel College women's basketball team to its seventh-straight win on Tuesday night, 77-37 over Alvernia on Rebecca L. Martin Court.

The Green Terror (7-0), who are receiving votes in both the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top 25 Coaches' Poll and D3hoops.com Top 25, posted their fifth win by at least 20 points this season. They also had a sixth win by 18 points.

McDaniel is averaging 72.4 points per game this season while outscoring its opponents by an average of 28.1 points per game.

Senior Elaina Beckett, who was named U.S. Basketball Writers Association National Player of the Week on Tuesday, posted her sixth consecutive 20-point game as she finished with a game-high 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting. She also added a game-high seven rebounds and five assists.

Beckett is averaging 24.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 3.3 steals this season. The program record for a single season is 23.0 points per game set by Becky Martin in 21 games during the 1979-80 season.

Junior Teya McConnaha totaled a season-high 17 points while adding six rebounds. Junior Raegan Lenz added nine points, five rebounds, six assists, four steals, and five blocks. Lenz leads the team with 5.7 assists and 3.6 blocks per game this season.

Combined, the trio is averaging 47.3 points, 20.7 rebounds, and 10.4 assists this season.

The Green Terror took control of the game early as they never trailed and led 20-4 after the first quarter. It was the fifth time in seven games this season that they held their opponent to single digits in the first 10 minutes as they have outscored its opponents 137-57 in the opening quarter this season.

McDaniel outscored the Golden Wolves 22-12 in the second and led 42-16 at halftime. Beckett had 14 points in the first half while McConnaha added 11.

In the third, the Green Terror stretched their lead to 63-24 after holding Alvernia (3-2) to just eight points while totaling 21 more of their own.

McDaniel scored 46 of its 77 points in the paint and 29 off turnovers. The team is averaging 27.6 points off turnovers this season.

Sophomore Lauren Cavoli had eight points and five assists while sophomore Kendra Mason totaled five points, three rebounds, and three assists.

The Green Terror will take a break for Thanksgiving before returning to action next Wednesday, Dec. 3 when they host Dickinson in their Centennial Conference opener. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
