WESTMINSTER, Md. - The McDaniel College women's basketball team shot 71 percent in the first quarter and opened a 20-point lead en route to an 82-31 victory over Notre Dame Maryland Wednesday night on Rebecca L. Martin Court.
With five consecutive wins, the Green Terror (5-0) are off to their best start since the 2014-15 season when they began with nine-straight wins on their way to a 24-4 overall record, the Centennial Conference championship game and first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship.
Senior
Elaina Beckett led the team in scoring for the fifth consecutive game, posting her third game with at least 20 points as she finished with 25 on 9-of-12 shooting, including a 3-of-3 from three-point range. She was also 4-of-4 from the free throw line while adding seven rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.
Beckett ranks second in the Centennial Conference in scoring at 23.8 points per game, trailing only Haverford's Caroline Orza at 24.0 per game. Beckett now has 1,122 points in 75 career games, just five from tying Ali Moreland '10 for 12th on the program's all-time scoring list. She is also just 26 shy of Erin Murphey '98 for 11th.

Riley Stigler added a career-high 13 points in 18 minutes and sophomore
Lauren Cavoli had 12 points, five assists, and two steals.
The Green Terror jumped out to a 29-9 lead following the first quarter after shooting 71 percent from the floor, making 12-of-17 attempts, including 3-of-4 from three-point range. Meanwhile, they limited the Gators (1-4) to just 4-of-15 shooting while scoring 16 points in the paint and 12 off nine Notre Dame turnovers.
Beckett scored 13 points in the first 10 minutes while Cavoli had seven and three assists. Lenz added four points and four assists.
Beckett had 20 points at the half as McDaniel led 49-17 after outscoring the Gators, 20-8.
Nine different players scored for the Green Terror who totaled 34 points off turnover. They are now averaging 26 points off turnovers through five games this season.
McDaniel plays its fifth home game out of six this season on Saturday when it hosts Eastern for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
