Beckett Scores 36 Points in 80-60 Win at St. Mary's (MD)

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - Senior Elaina Beckett scored a career-high 36 points to lead the McDaniel College women's basketball team to an 80-60 road win over St. Mary's (Md.) inside the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Thursday night.

The Green Terror (4-0), who are receiving votes in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Coaches' Poll, have started with four-straight wins for second time in the last three seasons. They also started 4-0 in 2023-24.

Beckett's 36 points were the second-most in program history, trailing only Becky Martin who scored 39 against Ursinus on Feb. 20, 1980. Beckett shot 75.0 percent from the floor, going 15-for-20, including 3-of-4 from three-point range, while adding six rebounds.

It is the second career 30-point game for Beckett whose previous career high was 31 points set in her first collegiate season and seventh career game on Nov. 29, 2022 versus Gettysburg.

With 36 points, Beckett moved past Katy Powell '07 and Colleen Gohegan '84 on the program's all-time scoring list. Beckett is now 14th with 1,097 points in 74 career games.

Beckett scored 10 points in the first quarter while junior Teya McConnaha added seven as McDaniel scored 11 of the final 15 points and led 21-15 after one. The visitors scored 20 of their 21 points in the paint and made 10 of their 15 attempts from the floor.

Beckett added 12 of 21 second-quarter points for the Green Terror who led 42-29 at halftime. They were 17-of-31 from the field for 54.8 percent with 26 points in the paint and 15 off turnovers.

The hot-shooting continued in the third quarter as McDaniel scored 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting to extend its lead to 70-45 entering the fourth and final quarter. Beckett added 14 points in the quarter to finish with 36 points in exactly 30 minutes of playing time.

McConnaha finished with 15 points for the second-straight game to go along with five rebounds while junior Raegan Lenz flirted with a triple-double, totaling nine points, seven rebounds and seven assists. She also had three blocks.

Sophomore Lauren Cavoli had six points, four assists, and three steals while drawing 10 personal fouls.

McDaniel has a five-day layoff before returning to action next Wednesday, Nov. 19 when it hosts Notre Dame Maryland on Rebecca L. Martin Court beginning at 7:30 p.m.
