WESTMINSTER, Md. - Junior
Charlie Olson scored on a penalty kick in the 55th minute to lift the McDaniel College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Franklin & Marshall on Senior Day Saturday at the Soccer Complex.
With the win, the Green Terror (9-4-4, 3-4-4 CC) clinched their second consecutive appearance in the Centennial Conference Men's Soccer Championship.
McDaniel finished the regular season with 13 points, tying them with Muhlenberg for fifth place. The Green Terror will be the No. 5 seed by virtue of their 1-1 tie with top-seeded Dickinson last Saturday. Muhlenberg lost to the Red Devils, 1-0 at home last night.
As a result, McDaniel will travel to No. 4 seed Johns Hopkins on Tuesday in the first round.
Olson scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season by converting the team's first penalty kick in two attempts this season after he was taken down in the box by the Diplomats' Miguel Rosa. Olson slotted the ball into the left corner against Davis Rorick who dove to the right.
Olson's six goals are the most since Nick Starr had seven in 2022 en route to earning All-Region V Third Team from the United Soccer Coaches.
Meanwhile, the Green Terror defense held Franklin & Marshall (3-11-3, 1-6-2 CC) without a shot on goal, helping sophomore
Joseph Peloquin earn his first shutout in his third career appearance and first start.
The physical contest featured 24 combined fouls and four yellow cards.
Kickoff time for Tuesday's first round contest will be announced on Monday. The game will mark the first postseason meeting between McDaniel and Johns Hopkins since Nov. 6, 2004, also played at Homewood Field.
