Late Goal in 88th Minute Lifts Hood Past Men's Soccer, 1-0

FREDERICK, Md. - A goal by Jonathan Fuentes with 2:57 remaining gave Hood a 1-0 victory over the McDaniel College men's soccer team in a non-conference match-up on Tuesday at Thomas Athletic Field.

The Green Terror (7-2-2), who were ranked at No. 8 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Region V rankings on Tuesday, limited the Blazers to just seven shots, including one on goal, but it proved to be the game-winner.

The loss snapped an eight game unbeaten streak in the series for McDaniel against its in-state rival as Hood posted its first win since a 2-1 victory at home on Oct. 18, 2006.

With the game looking like it was headed to a second-straight scoreless draw for the Green Terror, Fuentes found the back of the net for the second time this season off an assist by Lucas Godfroy.

The Blazers (7-2-1) have posted their most wins in the last four seasons and have now won five of their seven home games this season, also the team's most since 2021.

Hood held a 4-1 advantage in shots in the first half, but could not put one one goal. McDaniel held a 5-3 margin in the second half with one on goal by first-year Kristerson Mitchell in the 70th minute, but it was stopped by Adam Labows for the lone save of the game.

The visitors limited the Blazers to just one shot in first 39 minutes of the second half before back-to-back shots led to the game's only goal.

First-year Donovan Green recorded two of the six shots for the Green Terror.

The game featured 32 combined fouls and five yellow cards which Hood being whistled for 12 fouls in the second half to just two for McDaniel.

The Green Terror return home to host a Centennial Conference contest with Muhlenberg on Saturday. Kickoff is at 3 p.m. from the Soccer Complex.
