Men's Soccer Ties Muhlenberg in Regionally Ranked Battle

WESTMINSTER, Md. - The McDaniel College men's soccer team battled Muhlenberg to a scoreless draw in a match-up of two regionally ranked teams on Saturday at the Soccer Complex.

The Green Terror (7-2-3, 1-1-3 CC) entered the game ranked eighth in the latest United Soccer Coaches Region V rankings while the Mules were ranked fourth.

The game was also a rematch of last year's Centennial Conference Men's Soccer Championship first round contest in which Muhlenberg edged out a 1-0 decision at home.

Junior Tate Roth made three saves to pick up his seventh shutout in 12 starts this season while Ben Mulford had two stops for the Mules (7-0-6, 3-0-2 CC).

Each team had some quality chances in what was a very chippy contest that featured 26 fouls, six yellow cards, and one red card.

In the 58th minute, first-year Nicholas Clarke had a chance to break the ice with Mulford out of position, but his shot was saved and cleared out by Trevor Mikuta to keep the game scoreless.

In the 88th minute, the Muhlenberg had its best scoring opportunity following a Green Terror foul that was deemed just outside of the penalty box, avoiding a penalty kick for the visitors. On the resulting free kick, Thomas Shreiber's curving line drive was saved by Toth.

A year ago, Shreiber had the game's lone goal in the 37th minute in the Mules' conference tournament victory.

McDaniel begins a two-game road trip on Wednesday when it makes the short trip to Owings Mills for a non-conference contest at Stevenson. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.
