Two Second-Half Goals Lead Stevenson Over Men's Soccer, 2-0

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - On Wednesday, Stevenson scored two second-half goals en route to a 2-0 victory over the McDaniel College men's soccer team at Owings Mills East Soccer Field.

The Green Terror (7-4-2) suffered their first loss in three all-time meetings against the Mustangs after being limited to just five shots, including one on goal.

Stevenson held a 14-5 advantage in shots, including an 8-3 margin in the second half while McDaniel held a slight edge in corner kicks, 5-4.

Gianfranco Vitella broke the scoreless tie with his team-leading ninth goal of the season in the 56th minute off an assist from Blest Dumbuya.

The Mustangs (6-3-3) maintained its one-goal advantage until Vitella assisted on Ellis Amo's seventh goal of the season in the 85th minute to provide some insurance for the home team.

The game was physical throughout with a total of 16 fouls, four yellow cards and one red card. The goal by Amos came just 71 seconds after the Green Terror were assessed two yellow cards, including the second on sophomore Trevor Grodsky which led to the visitors playing a man down for the final seven-plus minutes.

McDaniel was held to just three second-half shots, two of which were blocked and the last of which was wide as it was held scoreless for the fourth consecutive game. It was just the team's second loss in seven road games this season.

Junior Tate Roth finished with four saves in goal, including three in the second half. Five different players had a shot for the Green Terror with first-year Nicholas Clarke recording the one on goal.

McDaniel concludes its two-game road trip on Saturday when it heads to Haverford for a 3 p.m. kickoff with the Fords.
