BALTIMORE, Md. – Senior
Kailey Young surpassed 500 career kills for the McDaniel College volleyball team in a 3-0 loss to No. 2 Johns Hopkins on Wednesday night in Baltimore.
The Green Terror (9-11, 1-4) started the opening set on a tear, scoring the first three points thanks to a service ace from sophomore
Kaylee Comstock and a kill from Young. The Blue Jays (19-3, 6-0) soon took the lead back to make the score 12-8. After a block by Young and first year
Kaitlyn Saidat, Johns Hopkins rattled off five straight points to pull ahead by seven, 19-12. The Blue Jays closed out the opener to win 25-16 to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The second set started well again for the Green Terror, leading 4-2 after six points. Following a kill from Comstock to cut the deficit to three, Johns Hopkins scored four straight to grow the lead to 20-13 late in the set, eventually securing a 25-16 win.
The Blue Jays started the third set on a 7-1 run but McDaniel fought back into the contest, eventually slimming the deficit to 14-11. Johns Hopkins scored seven of the next eight points and held off a late Green Terror rally to secure the sweep, 25-17.
Young led the team with seven kills on 23 attempts, while first year
Mariya Carson had five and sophomore
Stephanie Buttons had four. Comstock and sophomore
Cassy Poteet tied for the team lead with 11 assists each while senior
Samantha Fadel had seven digs.
The Green Terror conclude a two-match road trip on Friday night when they travel to Swarthmore at 7 pm.
