Overtime Winner Propels Gettysburg Past McDaniel, 1-0

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Cianna Miranda scored the game-winning goal three minutes into overtime to give Gettysburg a 1-0 win over the McDaniel College field hockey team on Wednesday night at Gill Stadium.

The match was the fourth of the season to go to overtime for the Green Terror (5-10, 1-6), which brings their record to 2-2 in those matches.

Sophomore Charley Noah had an early shot opportunity in the first quarter but missed wide of the net at 2:26. Both teams combined for only four shots in the opening frame, one of which was saved by junior Lora Scarangello just before the five-minute mark.

The Bullets (8-7, 3-4) started the second quarter with four consecutive penalty corners, resulting in one shot and another save for Scarangello and keeping the contest scoreless at halftime.

Gettysburg combined to take 12 shots in the second half but could not convert on those chances, including eight shots in the fourth quarter alone. Scarangello registered five of her seven saves in the second half, three of which came in the fourth quarter. Noah's final two shot attempts of regulation were blocked to send the game to an extra session.

Less than a minute into overtime, Gettysburg had a potential goal hit the post, and the rebound missed moments later. Following a wide shot from Noah, the Bullets connected on the game-winner in the 63rd minute to walk it off in Westminster.

Noah finished with six shot attempts and one shot on goal, while Scarangello recorded seven saves on 21 shots faced. Gettysburg collected nine penalty corners compared to only one for McDaniel; the Bullets also held the edge in shots 21-6.

The Green Terror travel to Muhlenberg on Friday to battle the Mules in a Centennial Conference contest. The match will begin at 6 pm.
