Comstock’s Career-High Leads Volleyball to First Conference Win

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Sophomore Kaylee Comstock tied her career-high with seven service aces to lead the McDaniel College volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Bryn Mawr on Saturday for its first conference win of the season.

Comstock tied her high mark of seven aces set against North Carolina Wesleyan on Sept. 12 on the first night of the McDaniel Invitational.

The Green Terror (9-10, 1-3) started set one on a 10-4 run following back-to-back kills from junior Abigayle Bowley. An ace from Bowley later grew the lead to eight, and McDaniel held off the Owls (3-13, 0-4) for a 25-15 victory in the opener.

McDaniel opened the second set on a 7-0 run, highlighted by four consecutive aces from Comstock to start the scoring. After Bryn Mawr cut the deficit to five, the Green Terror respond4d by rattling off nine straight points to increase the lead to 18-4. The Owls fought back late but couldn't hold off the Green Terror who cruised to a 25-10 win.

Bryn Mawr took the momentum to start set three, scoring the first four points. McDaniel scored five straight to take its first lead of the set on a kill from senior Kailey Young. Young's kill sparked a 5-0 run for the Green Terror, but the Owls battled back again to cut the deficit to four late in the set. A kill in the far corner from junior Renita Bankole-Gibson sealed a 25-20 McDaniel win to complete the sweep over the Owls.

Young finished with a team-high nine kills while sophomore Stephanie Buttons finished second on the team with seven. The Green Terror finished the day with 20 service aces as a team, their highest single match total this season and most since a Sept. 22, 2023 match with Valley Forge.

McDaniel begins a two-match road trip on Wednesday against No. 9 Johns Hopkins. The match will start at 7 pm.
