WESTMINSTER, Md. - First-year
Caydence Stone scored on a penalty stroke in the 39th minute to give the McDaniel College field hockey team a 1-0 Centennial Conference win over Bryn Mawr on Saturday at Gill Stadium.
The Green Terror (5-7, 1-3 CC) secured their first conference win since a 2-1 victory at Dickinson on Oct. 4, 2022 and their first win over the Owls since Oct. 6, 2018.
The win was also the first for interim head coach
Kristin Ramey '05.
The Owls took five shots in the opening frame, three of which were saved by junior
Lora Scarangello.
Sophomore
Charley Noah took three shots in the second quarter and Bryn Mawr had two to hold a 7-3 edge at halftime.
The Owls (6-7, 1-4 CC) had three shots and two penalty corners in the first three minutes of the third quarter but could not convert. Following a Bryn Mawr foul in the shooting circle, Stone earned a penalty stroke and scored on a shot into the lower left corner to give McDaniel a 1-0 lead. It was her second of the season.
Bryn Mawr had four penalty corners in the fourth quarter, resulting in three shots that could not find the back of the net. Scarangello collected her fourth save on a last-second shot attempt to record her third shutout of the season.
The Green Terror will travel to Baltimore on Wednesday for a match-up with No. 2 Johns Hopkins beginning at 5 p.m.
