SWARTHMORE, Pa. – An 18-4 run late in the second half proved costly as the McDaniel College men's basketball team fell on the road against Swarthmore 66-54 on Saturday.

Chuck Contee led the Green Terror (11-4, 1-2) with 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Contee now has 965 career points and needs only 35 more to become the 19
th player in program history to score 1,000 points. Junior
David Kearney scored 11 points and led the team with nine rebounds. Senior
Lorin Hallscored eight points and grabbed six rebounds.
Both teams battled in a back-and-forth first half that featured four ties and five lead changes. McDaniel jumped out to an early 7-4 lead and maintained a slim advantage for much of the half. The Garnet (10-5, 2-1) broke a 23-23 tie with 3:46 to play and led the rest of the game.
McDaniel cut the lead to one to open the second half but Swarthmore quickly pushed the lead to 11 at the 15:49 mark. The Green Terror battled back and drew to within two on a Contee three-pointer with 7:06 to go. The Garnet responded with a 9-0 run over the next three minutes and grew the lead to 15 under two minutes left to play. Late baskets from Contee weren't enough as Swarthmore closed the contest on a 21-11 run.
The Green Terror won the rebounding battle 32-24 and shot well from the free throw line, making 18-of-24 attempts. But turnovers and missed shots made the difference in the second half, as Swarthmore took advantage of missed opportunities to pull away late.
McDaniel wraps up a two-game road trip on Wednesday at Johns Hopkins. Tip-off is slated for 8 pm.
