LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall went 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the final 13 seconds to hold off the McDaniel College women's basketball team Saturday at the Mayser Center, 62-57.
In a match-up of two 10-win teams, the Green Terror (10-4, 1-2 CC) used a 16-6 fourth-quarter run to rally from an 11-point deficit and cut the Diplomats lead to 58-57 with 13 seconds remaining.
After two free throws by Lizzie Neville, the visitors missed a three-pointer to tie the game with eight seconds remaining before Neville added two more free throws with four seconds left to give F&M its first win in the last four meetings against McDaniel.
The Diplomats (11-4, 2-2 CC) went 19-of-23 from the free throw line.
Senior
Lil Overcash led the way with 13 points, three rebounds and five assists while sophomore
Teya McConnaha also had 13 points to go along with five rebounds and two steals. Junior
Elaina Beckett totaled 11 points, a team-high eight rebounds and four assists.
The game featured 10 ties and eight lead changes. F&M led 13-8 after the first quarter and by as many as seven in the second before holding a 26-24 halftime lead.
With the contest tied at 32-32 midway through the third, the Diplomats scored the next 10 points to take their largest lead before extending it to 11 with 5:56 to play in the fourth, 52-41.
The starters accounted for 53 of McDaniel's 57 points as sophomore
Raegan Lenz had nine and sophomore
Caroline Barbalato added seven. The visitors also scored 32 of their points in the paint.
Ally Trebelev had 20 points for F&M and Neville had 14. The two combined to go 14-for-16 from the free throw line.
The Green Terror return home to the friendly confines of the Gill Center and Rebecca L. Martin Court on Wednesday as they host a conference contest versus Dickinson beginning at 6 p.m.
