Thomas Monn and senior
Xavier Howard each totaled two wins on day two of the Budd Whitehill National Duals hosted by Lycoming on Saturday.
The Green Terror (2-11) dropped two matches on the final day, falling to York (PA), 34-17, and Oswego, 32-17.
Monn, ranked 10th nationally and first in Region 3 by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, recorded a fall and tech fall at 149 pounds while Howard, ranked fourth in Region 3, posted a fall and a decision at 157 pounds.
The Spartans (6-5) won the first three matches to take a 14-0 lead before back-to-back falls by Monn and Howard pulled McDaniel within two. However, York won four of the final five matches to claim a 34-17 victory, their second over the Green Terror this season after a 25-23 win in Westminster on Nov. 23.
Senior
Val Pryor recorded a tech fall over Owen Dixon at 197 pounds, 18-3. Junior
Romeo Tsai, ranked seventh in Region 3 at 133 pounds, fell to fifth-ranked Vincent Paolucci by decision, 5-0.
In the second match against the Lakers (3-7), McDaniel jumped out to a 14-12 lead behind wins from Tsai, Monn and Howard, but lost the next four before junior
Zeke Gayle closed the match with a 4-2 decision at heavyweight over Dylan Cogswell.
Tsai won by forfeit, Monn recorded a tech fall while Howard posted a 6-3 decision over Tyler Rossini who is ranked third in Region 2. Pryor battled third-ranked Anthony Cascen at 197 pounds before falling in overtime, 7-4.
The Green Terror return to action next Saturday, Jan. 18 when they host Elizabethtown at 7 p.m. on Senior Day. Prior to the match, the team will honor its six seniors: Howard, Pryor,
Alex DuFour,
Justin Shiflett,
Ty Jefferson, and
Joe McKneely.
