WINCHESTER, Va. – Senior
Allyson Burgee guided the McDaniel volleyball team to a come-from-behind win against Brooklyn College in the closing match of a three-match weekend at the Shenandoah Invitational.
The Green Terror (3-2) took the match in five sets after the Bulldogs (1-4) secured a 2-1 lead. McDaniel embarked on multiple scoring runs to win the second set 25-14, then survived a late comeback attempt in set four to force the decisive fifth frame. The Green Terror broke a 5-5 tie by scoring five of the next six points en route to a 15-6 win.
Burgee tallied 12 kills in the match, setting a new career high. She also led the way defensively with a team-high four blocks. Juniors
Kailey Young and
Kenzie Mitchell also totaled 12 kills, while Sophomore
Abigayle Bowley and Graduate Student
Nia Roberts both finished in double figures with 11 and 10 respectively.
Sophomore
Hannah Waters set up her teammates with a game-high 25 assists and five service aces. Freshman
Kaylee Comstock contributed with 23 assists and four service aces. Senior
Katherine Taveras continued to climb up the leaderboards by tallying 25 digs, giving her 873 for her career.
McDaniel faces Wilson in a road match on Tuesday at 7 pm before returning home for the McDaniel Invitational on Friday.
