WINCHESTER, Va. - Junior
Kailey Young led the McDaniel volleyball team to a doubleheader split on day one of the Shenandoah Invitational, claiming victory in five sets over Penn State Altoona and falling in straight sets to host Shenandoah.
The Green Terror (2-1) took the first two sets by scores of 25-21 and 26-24 before the Nittany Lions (2-4) battled back to tie the match at 2-2. McDaniel won the decisive fifth set 15-13 thanks to a late 6-0 run that erased a four-point deficit.
Young notched a team-high and season-best 13 kills in the win, finishing with a .226 attack percentage and assisting on three blocks. Graduate student

Allyson Burgee also collected double-digit kills for McDaniel, finishing with 11 each.
Freshman
Kaylee Comstock led the team with a career-high 23 assists and six service aces. Senior
Katherine Taveras led the way defensively with 23 digs, increasing her career total to 848. Sophomore
Abigayle Bowley tied a season-high with six blocks in the win.
Later in the evening, McDaniel (2-2) fell in straight sets to Shenandoah (3-3). The Green Terror battled in a back-and-forth second set, tying the score eight times and forcing four lead changes before the Hornets pulled away to win. Junior
Kenzie Mitchell led the team with nine kills, tying a season-high mark.
The Green Terror finish off the Shenandoah Invitational with a 10:30 a.m. match against Brooklyn College on Saturday.
