WESTMINSTER, Md. - Freshman
Teaghen Rieder made a career-high 11 saves while senior
Morgan Collins added a defensive save as the McDaniel College field hockey team fell to Swarthmore Saturday at Gill Stadium, 4-0.
The loss was the first for the Green Terror (2-6, 0-2 CC) at home against the Garnet since 2019. They won the previous meeting, 1-0, on Oct. 16, 2021.
Reider posted a new career high in saves for the third-straight game after she had nine against Lebanon Valley on Sept. 18 and 10 on the road at No. 4 Johns Hopkins on Wednesday.
The game was scoreless through the first 14 minutes before Swarthmore (5-4, 1-0 CC) scored back-to-back goals just 22 seconds apart to end the first quarter. Hannah Ulrich scored the first of her two goals with 36 seconds remaining before Amelia Landry followed with 14 seconds left.
Ulrich added her second goal just 1:41 into the second quarter before Katherine Kohn scored off an assist from Sarah Cooper with 3:29 to play before halftime.
After allowing four goals on 13 shots in the first half, the McDaniel defense limited the Garnet to just four shots in the second half, all of which were turned away by Reider and Collins.
The Green Terror begin a three-game road trip on Wednesday when they head to Chestertown, Maryland to face Washington College. Game time is at 4 p.m.
