McDaniel Posts Third-Straight Win, Third-Straight Shutout

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - Sophomore AJ Reta scored for the second consecutive game to lead the McDaniel College men's soccer team to a 1-0 non-conference road win at Gwynedd Mercy Wednesday.

The Green Terror (4-2-1) wrapped up a three-game road trip with its third-straight shutout, outscoring its three opponents, 4-0. The team has not allowed a goal in its last four road games this season, extending its shutout streak to 360 minutes.

Overall, McDaniel has not allowed a goal in the last 279 minutes dating back to the 81st minute against Eastern Mennonite at home on Sept. 11.

The Green Terror held a 10-8 edge in shots and a 5-2 margin in corner kicks. They out-shot the Griffins 5-1 and had all four corner kicks in the first half, but the game remained scoreless.

McDaniel registered the first three shots and first corner kick of the second half before Reta was able to find the back of the net in the 74th minute on the team's ninth shot attempt of the game and fourth of the half.

It was Reta's team-leading second goal of the season and third of his career.

Gwynedd Mercy (2-7-1) recorded six of the game's last seven shots over the final 16 minutes, but were not able to get the equalizer as two were blocked and a third was saved by sophomore Tate Roth.

The Griffins had two corner kick opportunities in the last 37 seconds, but their lone shot was denied by Roth.

The game was a physical contest as the two teams combined for 16 fouls and five yellow cards.

The Green Terror return home for the first time since Sept. 11 on Saturday when they hosts a Centennial Conference contest versus Washington College. Kickoff is at 3 p.m.
