WESTMINSTER, Md. - Freshman
Gabriella Piantadosi scored her first career goal to lead the McDaniel College women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Penn State Harrisburg Wednesday at the Soccer Complex.
The Green Terror (4-1-1), who are receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division III Poll, posted their fourth win of the season and fourth by shutout. They extended their unbeaten streak at home to 12, improving to 9-0-3. During that time, the team has allowed just one goal n 12 games, outscoring its opponents, 17-1.
Wednesday marked the second-ever meeting between the two teams with the last coming in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship on Nov. 13, 2021 in Westminster. McDaniel also won by shutout, 2-0.
The Green Terror out-shot the Nittany Lions 6-1 and held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes, but the game was scoreless until the 25th minute when Piantadosi scored on the team's fourth corner kick.
Graduate student
Elaina Kluttz took the corner and sent a high arching cross into the box where sophomore
Alexis Keller-Posen redirected it out of the air to Piantadosi who drove it inside the right post on a beautiful tic-tac-toe play.
Keller-Posen picked up the primary assist while Kluttz recorded her team-leading second of the season. With her game-winning goal, Piantadosi is the 11th different player to register a point for McDaniel this season.
The Nittany Lions (2-3-1) were much more aggressive in the second half, totaling four shots and three corner kicks, but the Green Terror defense held strong, allowing just one shot on goal which was turned away by senior
Lauren Hoolahan.
A total of 18 players saw action for McDaniel.
