Strouse’s Career Night Leads Volleyball to Win Over York (PA)

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Senior Angalyn Strouse had a career-high 18 kills to lead the McDaniel College volleyball team to a 3-1 win over York (PA) on Tuesday.

Strouse topped her previous mark of 17 kills from an Oct. 7 match against Ursinus last season. She also hit a season-best .325 on 40 total attempts.

Graduate Student Nia Roberts and junior Kenzie Mitchell each finished in double figures with 11 kills. Freshman Kaylee Comstock set new career-highs with 38 assists and five kills and chipped in defensively with nine digs. Senior Katherine Taveras led the team with 17 digs and increased her career total to 945.

McDaniel (8-2) broke an 11-11 tie in the first set by scoring 10 of the next 11 points to win the opener 25-18.  A late run by York (2-9) in the second set propelled the Spartans to a 25-23 win despite a late comeback attempt by the Green Terror. McDaniel survived another back-and-forth set by scoring four of the final five points to clinch a close 25-21 win in set three. The Green Terror used a 4-0 run to establish momentum in the fourth and fought off a 7-1 run by York to pull out a 25-23 victory and close out the match in four sets. Despite a season-high 17 service errors, the Green Terror forced the Spartans into 29 attack errors and a .061 attack percentage.

McDaniel's next match is back at the Gill Center where it hosts Trinity Washington on Oct. 1 at 6:00pm.
