Scott Picks Up First Career Win in Shutout Over Goucher

WESTMINSTER, Md. - First-year head coach Michael Scott picked up his first career win as the No. 25 McDaniel College women's soccer team opened the 2024 season with a 4-0 shutout win over Goucher Friday at the Soccer Complex.

The Green Terror (1-0) opened the season with a shutout victory for the second-straight year while extending their home unbeaten streak to 10. The team began the 2023 season with a 1-0 win over Kean in the Stockton Classic.

Of note, Sandy Lagana Bly, who Scott spent seven season as an assistant under from 2017-23, began her career at McDaniel with a 4-0 win over Marymount (VA) at home on Sept. 4, 2012.

Senior Madyson Hill, who had one career goal in 47 career games entering today, scored twice on Friday, netting tallies in the 59th and 61st minute while junior Sarah Hurley and freshman Gabriella Piantadosi each had two assists. The assists were the first points of both's career.

After a scoreless first 42 minutes, McDaniel broke through on its 10th shot of the half when senior Jessica Weinoldt, a United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American last season, netted the team's first goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Carly Brock.

The goal was the 16th career tally for the Weinoldt and her sixth career game-winning goal.

The Green Terror totaled 14 of the game's first 16 shots and increased their lead to 2-0 when freshman Lauren Green scored in her first collegiate appearance off an assist from junior Bayleigh Perdue.

Hill capped the scoring with back-to-back goals just two minutes apart as McDaniel cruised to its 15th shutout in the last 22 games.

The Green Terror out-shot the Gophers 23-3 and held an 8-1 edge in corner kicks. Senior Lauren Hoolahan had one save in 71 minutes before giving way to freshman Mack Langlo.

McDaniel returns to action on Saturday when it welcomes Pacific Lutheran to the Soccer Complex for a 4 p.m. kickoff. The Lutes knocked off No. 17 Johns Hopkins on Friday at Homewood Field, 3-2.
