CARLISLE, Pa. - The McDaniel College baseball team scored four runs in the top of the third to post a 5-3 victory over second-seeded Dickinson in the 2024 Centennial Conference Baseball Championship Thursday at MacPhail Field.
The third-seeded Green Terror (23-13) picked up their first postseason win since 2016 when they were also the No. 3 seed and posted a 4-1 win over fourth-seeded Gettysburg at Johns Hopkins.
Sophomore
Ben Davis went 2-for-5 with two RBIs while senior
Tyler Yohn also had two hits with one RBI. Yohn now has 168 career hits, moving him into fifth in program history past Pat Christopher who had 167 from 2010-13.
Graduate student
Ryan Martino improved to 5-0 on the mound while junior
Conor Henderson picked up his seventh save, setting a new single-season school record. Seven saves are also the third-most in a single season in conference history.
McDaniel jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three. Davis drove in the first run of the game with an RBI-single in the top of the first to score junior
Shane Daly who led off the game with a walk, stole second and moved to third on a fly out by graduate student
Joey Hubinger.
Daly stole his 24th base of the season, tying the program record set by Antonio Rosanova in 2017.
Holding a one-run lead, the Green Terror scored four runs in the top of the third, including two on RBI singles by Davis and Yohn. Sophomore
Robert Weer scored an unearned run on a fielder's choice by freshman
Ethan Haddock before Hubinger scored what proved to be the game-winning run on an RBI-ground out by freshman
Shea McKenna.
Martino and sophomore
Tyson Nercessian kept the Red Devils scoreless through five before the hosts scored twice with two outs in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI-double by Matt Torres and an RBI-single by Kaden Sigmon.
Dickinson scored its final run, unearned, on a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the seventh before Henderson closed the door, holding the Red Devils scoreless over the final 2.1 innings while allowing just two hits and striking out two.
In addition to six hits, McDaniel drew five walks and three hit-by-pitch.
The Green Terror will take on No. 9 Johns Hopkins in Baltimore on Saturday after the Blue Jays posted a 27-5 victory over Haverford Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
